One car, one driver Look at the traditional datacenter infrastructure where single application runs on a single server so if you need to run 100 applications then you will be required to implement 100 physical servers, now just think about the cost of hardware, maintenance, electricity or power consumption and day to day operations for all these applications running on single physical servers. This is analogous to a single car, single driver, where the car helps get the person from "point A" to "point B" and the single driver represents the driver and sole passenger of the vehicle. If this were a single driver on a energy-efficient motorcycle or scooter, than would be reasonable, but people often drive alone much bigger vehicles,what Jeff would call "over-provisioning".
